Buyer’s Guide

The pizzelle maker is designed to bring Italian cuisine to your home and it is a great way for you enjoy these without having to spend a ton of cash at your local bakery.

Before purchasing a pizzelle maker, you should consider a few things to ensure that you do get the best possible value for your money. These features were also used to determine which products are the best and to get you to top pizzelle makers of 2017.

Size

The size is a fundamentally important feature and you need to ensure that get the ideal size for your kitchen. Since you will not be using it every day, it will be beneficial if you could store it in an upright position in the cupboard when you are not using it.

The size will also have an impact on the space it uses on your counter and since you will be minimizing this space as much as possible, there will be no use buying a commercial pizzelle maker if you are moving into your first small apartment. You could determine the size by simply looking at the dimensions.

How to choose pizzelle maker // Pizzelle maker buyer’ guideFurthermore, the size also affects the amount of pizzelles you are able to make. For bakeries and commercial use, you will need something that makes 3-4 pizzelle’s every minute to keep your customers happy and to give them this fresh Italian dessert on command. For your home, the 2-plate pizzelle maker should be sufficient and you could just keep making them for the family.

Coating

Most modern pizzelle makers all have a coating that will give you the non-stick feature and this is really nice when cleaning it. However, having such a coating is quite expensive and while chrome is a good option for your aluminum plates, the stainless steel plates are generally non-stick already.

The problem with the stainless steel plates is the inability to regulate temperatures and you might have an uneven cooking experience.

The top pizzelle makers will have a non-stick coating, generally made from chrome. This means that you could simply wash it down with the hand or even just wipe down when you are done cooking. It is an effective and time-saving feature when making pizzelles.

Steam guard

Steam is found everywhere and when working with heat, it can lead to serious burns on your hands and even your face. The steam guard feature is essential to keep these burns from happening and you will be able to meddle with the knobs and the pizzelle maker without having to fear that the steam might hit you in the face.

The steam guard is certainly something to look for in your pizzelle maker and it ensures safety when cooking as well. With the steam guard, you could check on them at a regular interval to ensure that your treats are never overcooked and the perfect crispy temperature to enjoy.

Tools

If you are an avid chef, chances are that you already have all the tools needed to make pizzelles. Nevertheless, if you are going to pay an expensive price for your pizzelle maker, you might as well get top quality tools to help you complete the job.

The batter spoon is one of the most important tools and it can simplify your life when it comes to mixing the ingredients for those pizzelles.

Plate materials

Aluminum is one of the best materials you could choose for your plates.

Aluminum also ensures that the pizzelles are cooked evenly and the same on each side. While stainless steel is the more affordable option. It might not offer you the same quality pizzelles as the aluminum.

The aluminum plates are also much better when it comes to making those thinner pizzelles that offer more of a crisp and look much more like those found at your local bakery.

Removable plates

Before you buy, you should know that there are pizzelle maker with non-replaceable and replaceable plates. The advantage of devices with non-replaceable plates in their cheapness. And you can save on this.

But on the other hand, you can easily clean the replaceable plates in the dishwasher. You can also completely replace them if you accidentally scratch the coating. This is really a benefit.

To all, you can buy an additional set of plates with different patterns and make a lot of beautiful ones.

Built-in timer

Cooking waffles for the first time is not easy. You need to know the exact time needed to prepare such waffles as you need. But if you have a built-in timer, cooking sweets becomes simple.

The timer notifies you with a sound signal that the waffles are ready. This will prevent overcooking. And you get delicious lightly fried waffles from the first time. Besides, the pizzelle maker can have temperature and browning settings for each favorite texture mode.

Warranty

The warranty is something we always place a lot of emphasis on and since these products are electrical, it will be better for you to have a decent warranty to keep you protected.

The warranty does not have to be 10 years like the Palmer brand, but a decent 2-year warranty will give you enough time to find out if the product does have any flaws or manufacturer defects that need to be corrected. We recommend looking for a decent warranty as you purchase the pizzelle maker.

Easy to clean

The pizzelle maker should be easy to clean and once you have used it, it will be very beneficial if you are capable of washing it with the dishwasher.

How to use the pizzelle maker at first time?

  1. Using the waffle iron for the first time, you need to follow these tips.
  2. Place the pizzelle maker closer to the hood. During work, it generates a lot of heat.
  3. Wipe with a damp cloth and allow to dry before use.
  4. Apply some vegetable oil to the surface of the mold even if you have a non-stick coating.
  5. Make the dough according to the recipe.
  6. Close the pizzelle maker and plug it in. Let it warm up. When it ready to work its operation indicator should light up.
  7. Pour one tablespoon of dough in the center of each mold.
  8. Close the lid and wait until the ready light comes on. If your device has a built-in timer, then you will hear a beep.
  9. Open the lid. You should get tasty golden waffles.
  10. If the waffles are not crispy and thick, put less dough in the next batch. You can also make a batter.
  11. If you want to form the waffles into tubes, do it while they are hot and soft.
  12. Remove wafers with a wooden or plastic spatula so as not to damage the mold coating.
  13. After use, allow time for the pizzelle maker to cool.
  14. Do not touch the metal parts of the heated waffle iron. It is very hot and can burn your hands.
  15. If the plates are removable, rinse them off with warm water. You can also wash them in the dishwasher.
  16. If not, wipe them gently with a soft cloth to remove any excess fat and crumbs.
  17. After each use, be sure to clean the surface of the plates. This way they will last you longer.
  18. Do not scratch them. Use only mild cleansing agents.

How to choose pizzelle maker // Pizzelle maker buyer’ guide

The dishwasher will remove those tough to reach stains, but if it must be hand washed, the coating will play a massive role. The easier the pizzelle maker is to clean, the more you will be inclined to use, as you will know that it does not take much trouble to clean it.

Hi! Actually, they are not pancakes, they are pizzeles. It works in a similar way to a waffle iron. There are 2 metal decorative plates that have shapes with different patterns. You just put some pizzele dough at the middle of the circle and close so both sides are together. Then you just open pizzele maker up and get ready-to-eat dessert.

I know that pizzelle originated in Italy and get their name from one Italian word for something round and flat. Recently I moved to Italy and it is really traditional dessert here. They often serve it for Easter for example or for Christmas and I like it very much. One more reason to love pizzeles is their being various. Crunchy or crisp, different sizes and flavors.

So it has a long history. There are also different ways to eat them. You can enjoy them as a cannoli or a cookie – it depends on the way you make them. Enjoy!

Great review. I like your tips on how you can make them. I usually use coconut and chocolate flavorings. What other tastes have you used?

Welcome here. There is the traditional anise flavor, it usually tastes well. Lemon flavor also fits pizelles.

Thank you for sharing this post. Question about recipe. What kind of flour is better to use? Gluten level?

    Reply
    • Alex Turner says

Hello! All-purpose flour is always appropriate for these recipes. In these recipes pastry is ok to be used if and when possible. Pastry is better as the protein count but not gluten. Thank you for your question!

For chocolate pizzelles how much chocolate or something else should I add? Thanks!

Greetings! For this type of pizzelle add 3 teaspoons of cocoa powder and 1 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract. You may easily substitute for peppermint, cherry or coffee extract. Enjoy your meal!

It is a nice idea of using pizzelle as an ice-cream corn but to be honest it takes much time and work. I prefer buying them made and frozen.

That sounds well! But the main idea of cooking pizzelles is to make these wafer ones yourself! Anyway, what makes the pastry special is the cream which you put inside.

My beloved husband begs me to make more and more pizelles every day. It is worth every penny. This is my favorite thing in the kitchen now! It works well as expected. Extremely delicious pizelles! Sometimes I have some problems with cleaning when I make too many pizelles, but in the whole it is easy. I recommend anyone who is interested in pizelle making.

Thanks for your answer. We are glad you like it. We suggest that you teach your husband to use pizelle maker for double pleasure J Try to divide your cooking process into 2 halves so that it would be easier to clean your pizelle maker.

Love the Palmer Pizelle Maker so much! Easy to use and no problems with sticking! My only problem is that one of the legs is broken. My boyfriend didn’t put it into the cupboard in a proper way and the items moved around. Where can I buy a new plastic leg for this pizelle maker?

    • Alex Turner says

Hello! It is a pity you have such a problem. But we hope you saved the packing carton box because there is a spare leg included. You can easily fix it yourself if you still need it. Otherwise try to contact customer service – it works fine.

It is pretty difficult to clean this because plates are not movable. One half of pizelle seems to be lighter and the other half is darker.

Good afternoon! It may occur because of large amount of oil on the plate at the beginning. Add a little oil on the surface of the plates. Make sure you warmed up the iron to the contrary you will have a pizzelle mess. Pizelle halves will stuck to the top or bottom of the iron. If you make this needed temperature it won’t burn and you will have light-brown crispy pizelle. For cleaning use wet and dry wipes just after cooking. We hope it will help.

I was told about CucinaPro maker that is the best product on the today’s market. After reading your review I was thinking whether I want to but it. I purchased CucinaPro Pizelle Maker recently. Now I am soooo pleased! I found a recipe for the type of pizelle I like and made the first doze. They were perfect and had perfect thickness – crispy and thin. I would highly recommend CucinaPro to anybody who considers purchasing one.

This would be a hard one for me to decide between because I love Cuisinart’s products but I also like Palmer too. Pizzelles are delicious and my wife loves them so this would actually be a great gift for her, maybe for Christmas. Thanks for listing out some of the top rated ones but if I really had to choose and guess the best Pizzelle maker, I would say the Cuisinart would be the one I would go with because I’ve had tons of their kitchen products (even a waffle maker) and NONE have failed.

Pizzelles are so scrumptious! We had these at my wife and I’s wedding… they a tradition. We’ve tried making them with a waffle maker before when we lost our pizzelle maker, lol.

I had a pizzelle press that I got as a wedding present more than a decade ago. After serving for a very long time, the press finally broke down. It was time to get a new one. So, I started my research. I must say that I didn’t plan on spending much money on a new one. This is why I concentrated on economic options. This doesn’t mean that I was willing to settle for low quality, though. I singled out the Cuisinart WM-PZ10, which had many positive reviews. I was impressed by the modern look of this pizzelle press. It is nothing like the old one I owned. It has a nice browning control, which I almost don’t use. I found the setting that makes the right pizzelle for my children. So, I don’t need to change it. This is a quality product if your budget is not so big.

I’m a college student that loves pizzelles. I could eat them every day. But as a student, I can’t afford to go to a cafeteria daily. So, I figured out I’d save some money by making my pizzelles at home. I looked for a cheap pizzelle maker online. I bought the CucinaPro 220-05NS. Believe me, you can’t get anything better for the price. This appliance is quite compact, perfect for the kitchen I have at the college dorm. I read in some reviews that you can’t wash this product in a dishwasher. That’s not a problem for me. I don’t have a dishwasher. This product is perfect for students, singles, or couples. I don’t think this appliance will be good for a family with children. It cooks only 2 pizzelles at a time.

I ordered a Cuisinart CPP-200 to make pizzelle. My 5-year-old daughter loves these Italian cookies. Instead of buying them every day from the bakery, I decided to make them at home. Well, this isn’t an appliance specific for baking pizzelles. It’s rather a waffle maker. My fault, I didn’t do proper research. At first, I was a bit upset that I bought it. But after using it for a while, I realized it’s quite versatile. You can make waffles, pizzelles, crepes, and other types of cookies. Now, I changed my mind. I am very content with my purchase. If you want a press that can make all types of baking stuff, get this one. It’s not that cheap, though. But considering that the appliance is made of stainless steel, it is reasonably priced.

I have 3 children, and they all are fond of pizzelle. I had a small pizzelle maker to cook these cookies for them. Unfortunately, it can make only 2 pizzelles at a time. This means that one of my kids has to wait until the next batch is cooked. To avoid arguments over who gets their pizzelle first, I decided to buy a bigger maker. I ordered Chef’s Choice 835. This appliance is functional and makes good pizzelles in reasonable time. But now I have a little problem. I have no place to store. The maker is larger than you usually expect. It makes 3 pizzelles, right. But I think it is still large. My advice is to verify whether you have enough space in your kitchen shelves to store it before you buy it.

I purchased a pizzelle maker for my wife. Because of good reviews, I chose the Palmer 1000T. This is a high-quality product. As such, you pay a higher price for it. But this appliance works very well. It makes pizzelle in half a minute more or less. This is the ideal present for someone special.

My mother ran an Italian café for over 20 years. She recently retired, and I took over the business. One of my first decisions was to buy a new pizzelle maker. The one we had in the café’s kitchen wasn’t suitable for commercial use. After weighing the pros and cons, I chose the VillaWare V3600-NS. It’s an incredible product. First, the price: this appliance is expensive. So, if you’re on a budget, you better consider a different option. However, for a business, this is ideal. It bakes pizzelles very fast. The best thing about it is that you don’t have to open the press to flip the pizzelles. This feature saves a lot of time. Moreover, it has an automatic temperature control. So, you can do other things while the appliance is cooking the pizzelles. They will come out perfectly cooked. I can serve clients more rapidly now.

My two children recently ate pizzelle for the first time. They served them at a birthday party they were invited to. They asked if I could make these cookies for them at home. I told them that at least I could try. I researched several inexpensive options (I was on a budget). I ordered the Cuisinart WM-PZ2. I was very eager to start cooking pizzelles as soon as the appliance arrived. It comes with instructions. After much trial and error, I got some decently cooked pizzelle. The heating button is not completely reliable. Or the instructions are not accurate. Whatever, you will have to experiment a little bit before you find the proper setting. This appliance tends to overcook (even burn) the pizzelles. So, cook them for less time than what the instructions indicate.

I bought the Cuisinart WM-PZ10 to bake pizzelles for my family. They loved them for breakfast. This is a functional pizzelle press. It serves its purpose well. The heat control is a good feature. But in my opinion, the best feature is the temperature light indicator. I’m not an expert at making pizzelles. With the indicator, I don’t have to guess when the temperature is fine to bake the cookies. This is a great purchase in general. Just one little warning. Be careful when you open the press to remove the cooked pizzelles. The handle is not big, and you can get burned. You better wear kitchen gloves when you open it.
